ऋषि शौनक
ऋषि शौनक भृगुकुल का मंत्रदृष्टा हुआ है। यह व्यास की अथर्वन शिष्य परम्परा में से पथ्य नामक आचार्य का शिष्य था। एक भार्गव ऋषि इन्द्रौत हुआ है। भृगु से भार्गव, च्यवन, और्व, आप्नुवान, जमदग्नि, दधीचि आदि के नाम से गोत्र चले। यदि हम ब्रह्मा के मानस पुत्र भृगु की बात करें तो वे आज से लगभग 9,400 वर्ष पूर्व हुए थे। इनके बड़े भाई का नाम अंगिरा था। ऋषि इन्द्रौत गार्ग्य मुनि के शाप से ग्रस्त था। शौनक ने अश्वमेघ यज्ञ करवा कर उसे शाप मुक्त किया। शास्त्रों की बात, जानें धर्म के साथ इतना तो सब जानते ही होंगे कि आकाश में 7 तारों का एक मंडल नजर आता है। ज्योतिष शास्त्र के अनुसार इन्हीं 7 तारों के मंडल को सप्तर्षियों का मंडल भी कहा जाता है। इसके अतिरिक्त सप्तर्षि से उन 7 तारों का बोध होता है, जो ध्रुव तारे की परिक्रमा करते हैं। कहा जाता है मंडल के तारों के नाम भारत के महान 7 संतों के आधार पर रखे गए हैं। तो वहीं सनातन धर्म के वेंदों में भी उक्त मंडल की स्थिति, गति, दूरी और विस्तार की विस्तृत चर्चा मिलती है। मगर ऋषियों की संख्या 7 ही क्यों? ये सवाल बहुत से लोग के मन में आता है, लेकिन शायद इसका जवाब बहुत कम लोगों को मिला है। बता दें धार्मिक शास्त्रों में इसके बारे में बकायदा वर्णन किया गया है। तो आइए जानते हैं शास्त्रों में शामिल इससे संबंधित श्लोक व उसका अर्थात- श्लोक- सप्त ब्रह्मर्षि, देवर्षि, महर्षि, परमर्षय:। कण्डर्षिश्च, श्रुतर्षिश्च, राजर्षिश्च क्रमावश:।। अर्थात: 1. ब्रह्मर्षि, 2. देवर्षि, 3. महर्षि, 4. परमर्षि, 5. काण्डर्षि, 6. श्रुतर्षि और 7. राजर्षि- ये 7 प्रकार के ऋषि होते हैं इसलिए इन्हें सप्तर्षि कहते हैं। सनातन धर्म के ग्रंथों व पुराणों में काल को मन्वंतरों में विभाजित कर प्रत्येक मन्वंतर में हुए ऋषियों के ज्ञान और उनके योगदान को परिभाषित किया है। इसके अनुसार प्रत्येक मन्वंतर में प्रमुख रूप से 7 प्रमुख ऋषि हुए हैं। जिनमें से एक थे ऋषि शौनक। कौन थे ये ऋषि आइए जानते हैं- पुराणों के अनुसार ऋषि शौनक एक वैदिक आचार्य थे, जो भृगुवंशी शुनक ऋषि के पुत्र थे। इनका पूरा नाम इंद्रोतदैवाय शौनक था। ऋषि शौनक ने कुल 10 हज़ार विद्यार्थियों को गुरुकुल को चलाकर कुलापित का विलक्षण सम्मान हासिल किया था। इन्होंने यानि शौन राजा ने महाभारत काल में राजा जनमेजय का अश्वमेध और सर्पसत्र नामक यज्ञ संपन्न करवाया था। ऋष्यानुक्रमणी ग्रंथानुसार, असल में शौन ऋषि अंगिरस्गोत्रीय शनुहोत्र ऋषि के पुत्र थे, परंतु बाद में भृगु-गोत्रीय शनुक ने इन्हें अपना पुत्र मान लिया था। जिस कारण इन्हें शौनक पैतृक नाम प्राप्त हुआ था। शौन राजा ने ऋक्प्रातिशाख्य, ऋग्वेद छंदानुक्रमणी, ऋग्वेद ऋष्यानुक्रमणी, ऋग्वेद अनुवाकानुक्रमणी, ऋग्वेद सूक्तानुक्रमणी, ऋग्वेद कथानुक्रमणी, ऋग्वेद पादविधान, बृहदेवता, शौनक स्मृति, चरणव्यूह, ऋग्विधान आदि अनेक ग्रंथ लिखे हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त इन्होंने ही शौनक गृह्सूत्र, शौनक गृह्यपरिशिष्ट, वास्तुशा्सत्र ग्रंथ की रचना भी की थी। शौनक गृत्समद एक विख्यात आचार्य। यह ऋग्वेद अनुक्रमण आरण्यक, ऋकप्रातिशाख्य आदि ग्रन्थों का रचयिता माना जाता है। आश्वलायन प्रसिद्ध आचार्य हुआ हैं उसका भी यह गुरु था। कात्यायन, पंतजलि, व्यास आदि आचार्य भी इसकी परम्परा में आते हैं। शौनक इसका पैतृक नाम था। इन्होंने ऋग्वेद के द्वितीय मण्डल की पुनर्रचना की और स जनास इन्द्र’ नामक बारहवें सूक्त की रचना की। शौनक के द्वारा निर्मित नये ऋकृसंहिता के सूक्तों की संख्या 1017 बताई गई है। इस ऋषि के नाम पर निम्नलिखित ग्रन्थ उपलब्ध हैं- (1) ऋक् प्राति शाख्य (2) ऋग्वेद छंदानुक्रमणी, (3) ॠग्वेद ऋष्यानुक्रमणी (4) ऋग्वेद अनुवाकानुक्रमणी (5) ऋग्वेद सूक्तानुक्रमणी (6) ऋग् कथानुक्रमणी, (7) ऋ० पादविधान (8) बृहदेवता (9) शौनक स्मृति, (10) चरणव्यूह (11) ऋविधान । इनके अतिरिक्त शौनक गृहयसूत्र शौनक गृहपरिशिष्ट आदि छोटे ग्रन्थ हैं। वैदिक ऋचाओं का शौनक व्याकरण शास्त्रकार थे। उच्चारण एवं विभिन्न शाखाओं में प्रचलित उच्चारण पद्धति की जानकारी भी शौनक के इस ग्रन्थ में दी गई है। शौनक तत्व ज्ञानी थे। महाभारत में इनका उल्लेख देवल, मार्कण्डेय, गालव, भारद्वाज, उद्दालक, व्यास आदि के साथ गौरवपूर्ण शब्दों में किया गया है। गृत्समद वैदिक काल के एक ऋषि थे, जिन्हें ऋग्वेद के द्वितीय मंडल का अधिकांश भाग की रचना का श्रेय दिया जाता है। गृत्समद अंगिरस के परिवार के शुनहोत्र के एक पुत्र थे, लेकिन इंद्र की इच्छा से वह भृगु परिवार में स्थानांतरित हो गए।
English Translation
Rishi Shonak was a great visionary of Bhrigukul. He was a disciple of a teacher named Pathya, who hailed from the Atharvan disciple tradition of Vyasa. Another Bhargava sage, namely Indraut, also was a famous sage, those days. Following are the Bhrigu gotras of hindus:-
Bhargava, Chyavan, Aurva, Apnuvan, Jamdagni, Dadhichi etc.
If we talk about Bhrigu, the human son of Brahma, then he was born about 9,400 years ago i.e 7400 BC.
His elder brother’s name was Angira. Sage Indraut had been suffering from the curse of Gargya Muni. Shaunak set him free, from the curse, by performing an Ashwamedha Yagya.
Every hindu must learn sanatna dharma religion, from the scriptures, written by these great sages. Every hindu must know that a circle of seven stars, visible in the sky, are named remembering these great sages. According to astrology, the circle of these seven stars is also called the “Circle of Saptarishis”.
Apart from this, Saptarshi means those seven stars, which revolve around the pole star. It is said that the stars of the circle are named after the great sages of India. So there, in the Vedas of Sanatan Dharma, a detailed discussion is found about the position, speed, distance and expansion of that circle. But why only seven sages? This question comes in the mind of many people, but probably very few people have got answer, to this question.
The answer is properly explained in our religious scriptures. So let’s understand various related verses, in the scriptures and their meaning.
Seven Brahmarshis are:- 1. Brahmarshi, 2. Devarshi, 3. Maharshi, 4. Paramrshi, 5. Kandarshi, 6. Shrutarshi and 7. Rajarshi – these are seven sages, hence they are called Saptarshi.
In the religious texts and Puranas of Sanatan Dharma, the knowledge and contribution of sages in each Manvantar has been defined by dividing time into Manvantars.
According to this, there are mainly prominent sages in each Manvantar. Rishi Shaunak was one among them. According to Puranas, Rishi Shaunak was a Vedic teacher, who was the son of Bhriguvanshi Shunak Rishi. His full name was Indrotdaiwaya Shaunak. Rishi Shaunak had achieved the unique honor of Kul-pith by running a Gurukul with a total of ten thousand students. He i.e. Shaun Raja had got King Janamejaya’s Ashwamedha and Sarpasatra Yagya done during the Mahabharata period. According to the book “Rishyanukramani”, Shauna was the son of Rishi Angirasgotriya Shanuhotra, but later Bhrigu-gotriya Shanuka accepted him as his own son. Because of this he got his ancestral name Shaunak. Shaun Raja has written many books like
Rigveda Chandanukramani, Rigveda Chandanukramani, Rigveda Rishyanukramani, Rigveda Anuvakanukramani, Rigveda Suktanukramani, Rigveda Kathanukramani, Rigveda Padvidhan, Brihadevata, Shaunak Smriti, Charanvyuh, Rigvidhan etc.
Apart from this, he had also composed Shaunak Grihasutra, Shaunak Grihyaparishisht, Vastushastra book. shaunak gritsmad.
He was a famous teacher and the author of Rigveda indexing Aranyak, Rikpratishakhya etc.
Ashvalayan, the famous Acharya, was his teacher. Shaunak reconstructed the second division of Rigveda and composed the twelfth sukta named ‘Sajanas Indra’. The number of suktas of the new Rikrisamhita made by Shaunaka is said to be One thousand seventeen.
The following books, written by Sage Shaunak are available: – (1) Rigveda Shakhya (2) Rigveda Chandanukramani, (3) Rigveda Rishyanukramani (4) Rigveda Anuvakanukramani (5) Rigveda Suktanukramani (6) Rig Kathanukramani, (7) Rigveda Padvidhan (8) ) Brihadevata (9) Shaunak Smriti, (10) Charanvyuh (11) Rividhan. Apart from these, there are small books like Shaunaka Grihayasutra, Shaunaka Grihaparishit etc. He was a grammarian who was fond of Vedic hymns. Information about pronunciation and pronunciation method prevalent in different branches has also been given in the books of Shaunak. Shaunak was a knowledgeable person. In Mahabharata he is mentioned in glorious terminology, along with Sages Deval, Markandeya, Galav, Bharadwaj, Uddalak, Vyasa etc. Gritsamada was a sage of the Vedic period who is credited with the composition of most of the second division of the Rigveda. Gritsamada was a son of Shunahotra of the family of Angiras, but by the will of Indra he was transferred to the Bhrigu family.
