वसिष्ठ कुल
ऋषि वसिष्ठ :
इस वंश की जानकारी वायु, ब्रह्माण्ड मत्स्य आदि पुराणों में मिलती है। इस वंश के प्रमुख ऋषि निम्न है। आदि ऋषि वसिष्ठ, निमि के गुरु वसिष्ठ देवराज वसिष्ठ, आपव, अथर्व निधि, श्रेष्ठ राज, सुयज्ञ, सुवर्चस, मैत्रावरुण, शक्ति, उपमन्यु, शक्ति-पुत्र पराशर, व्यास आदि। इस वंश की अन्य शाखा ‘जातुकर्ण’ लोग माने जाते हैं।
जन साधारण की धारणा है कि वसि एक ही दीर्घ जीवी ऋषि हुए हैं, जो इक्ष्वाकु राजा से लेकर श्री राम चन्द्र जी तथा उन के पश्चात् महाभारत काल तक लगभग एक सौ राजाओं के पुरोहित रहे। पौराणिक साहित्य का अध्ययन करने से ज्ञात होता है कि इक्ष्वाकु राज्यों में गुरुओं या पुरोहितों का पद आनुवांशिक होता था। ऋषि वसिष्ठ के वंशज इस पद को सुशोभित करते रहें। उनके निजी नाम भिन्न थे, परन्तु प्रसिद्धि “गोत्र नाम “वसिष्ठ” से ही थी। शतपथ ब्राह्मण के अनुसार एक समय केवल वसिष्ठगण ही ब्राह्मण के रूप में कार्य करने वाले पुरोहित थे। बाद में अन्य ब्राह्मण भी ये कार्य करने लगे।
आदि गुरु वसिष्ठ
अयोध्या के राजा इक्ष्वाकु से लेकर दो या तीन पीढ़ियों के राजाओं के यही गुरु रहे हैं। उनका विवाह राजा दक्ष की पुत्री उर्जा से हुआ था। उर्जा से उन्हें सात पुत्र हुए जिनके नाम ये हैंरत्न, गर्व, उध्यबाहु, सवन, पंदन, सुतपस, शंकु उनकी पुण्डरिका नामक एक पुत्री थी। रत्न का विवाह मार्कण्डेयी से हुआ।
निमि के गुरु वसिष्ठ –
ईक्ष्वाकु राजा के बारहवें पुत्र तथा अयोध्या के राजा विकुक्षि के भाई निमि जो विदेह देश का प्रथम राजा था। उसका गुरु तथा राज पुरोहित भी वसिष्ठ था। निमि की राजधानी मिथिला थी। निमि ने सहस्रों वर्षों तक चलने वाले एक महान् यज्ञ का आयोजन किया। उसमें अपने कुल गुरु वसिष्ठ को आमंत्रित किया। गुरु वसिष्ठ कई वर्षों तक चलने वाले अन्य यज्ञ में व्यस्त थे। निमि ने उनकी अनुपस्थिति में अन्य ऋषि को ऋत्विज (मुख्य आचार्य) बना लिया। गुरु वसिष्ठ लौटे. “राजा ने कुछ समय गुरु की प्रतीक्षा नहीं की सोचकर दुःखी हुए। पद्म पुराण में लिखा है कि निमि अपनी रानियों के साथ धूत क्रीड़ा में मरन था। गुरु के पहुंचने पर उसने उनका यथोचित सत्कार नहीं किया। गुरु के शाप के कारण राजा निमि विदेह हो गया। यज्ञ समाप्त हुआ। उसके हविर्भाग को प्राप्त करने देवता पधारे। निमि को वर नामचे को कहा। निमि ने कहा, *प्रत्येक व्यक्ति की आंखों में मेरी स्थापना हो जाए, जिससे मैं मानवी शरीर से जुदा में हो सकू। इसीलिए आंख झपकने की क्रिया को ‘निमिषा कहते हैं. | निमि राजा ईक्ष्वाकु की तीसरी पीढ़ी में राजा विकुक्षि का समकालीन था। अज यह माना जाता है कि यह गुरु वसिष्ठ मानस पुत्र पंखिष्ठ की दूसरी या तीसरी पीढ़ी में हुआ होगा।

This lineage is mentioned in Puranas like Vayu, Brahmanda Matsya. The chief sages of this dynasty are as follows.

Another branch of this lineage is considered to be the ‘Jatukarna’ people. It is commonly believed that Vasi, was the only long-living sage, who was the priest of about one hundred kings from King Ikshvaku to Sri Rama Chandra and after him till the Mahabharata period. A study of mythological literature shows that the position of gurus or priests in the Ikshvaku kingdoms was hereditary. May the descendants of Rishi Vasishta continue to adorn this post. Their personal names were different, but the fame was from the “clan name “Vasistha”. According to the Shatapatha Brahmana, at one time only the Vasisthas were priests, who acted as Brahmins. Later other Brahmins also started becoming priests.
Adi Guru Vasishta.
He has been the teacher of two or three generations of kings i.e from King Ikshvaku of Ayodhya. He was married to Urja, daughter of King Daksha. By Urja, he had seven sons. whose names are Ratna, Garva, Udhyabahu, Savan, Pandan, Sutapas, Shanku. He had a daughter named Pundarika. Ratna married Markandeya.
Nimi’s Guru Vasistha – Nimi, the twelfth son of King Ikshvaku and brother of King Vikukshi of Ayodhya, was the first king of Videha country. His teacher and Raj Purohit was also Vasistha. The capital of Nimi was Mithila. Nimi organized a great yagya that lasted for thousands of years. Invited his family guru Vasishtha in it. Guru Vasishtha was busy with other Yagya which lasted for many years. Nimi made another sage Ritvija (chief teacher) in his absence. Guru Vasishtha returned. “The king felt sad for not waiting for the Guru for some time. It is written in the Padma Purana that Nimi along with her queens was about to die in a witchcraft game. When the Guru arrived, he did not give him due respect. Due to the curse of the Guru, King Nimi died. It is done. The yagya is over. The deities came to receive his havirbhag. Nimi asked the bridegroom. Nimi said, *May I be established in the eyes of every person, so that I may be separated from the human body. That is why the blinking of the eyes The action of is called ‘Nimisha. , Nimi was a contemporary of King Vikukshi in the third generation of King Ikshvaku. Today it is believed that it must have happened in the second or third generation of Guru Vasishtha.
