ऋषि पुलस्त्य
ऋषि पुलस्त्य एक प्रजापति थे, और ब्रह्मा के आठ मानस पुत्रों में से एक थे। अन्य भृगु, वशिष्ठ, मरीचि, अंगिरस, अत्रि, पुलह और क्रतु हैं, वे मनु, मन्वंतर के पहले युग में सप्तऋषि (सात महान संतों) में से एक हैं।
पुलस्त्य की पत्नी प्रीति स्वायंभु दक्ष की पुत्री थी और शंकर की पत्नी सती की बहिन थी। दक्ष द्वारा अपमानित शंकर ने ब्रह्मा के कई पुत्रों को मार डाला था, उनमें पुलस्त्य भी एक था।
पुराणों के अनुसार पुलस्त्य के दावग्नि, देवबाहू और दभोलि या दत्तोलि पुत्र थे । इड़विड़ पत्नी से पुलस्त्य ऋषि को विश्रवस एडविड नामक पुत्र हुआ। विश्रवस से उत्पन्न सन्तान राक्षस हुई। इसलिए पुलस्त्य ने अगस्त ऋषि का एक पुत्र गोद ले लिया। इसी दभोलि या दत्तोलि से पुलस्त्य वंश की अगस्त शाखा का विकास हुआ।
कुबेर-वैश्रवण शाखा
ऋषि पुलस्त्य के पुत्र विश्रवस को वृहस्पति की पुत्री देववर्णिनी से कुबेर नामक पुत्र हुआ कुबेर यक्ष था, परन्तु उसके चार पुत्र
नल कूबर, रावण, कुम्भ कर्ण, विभीषण तथा
पुत्री शूर्पनखा राक्षस थे। इन सबने राक्षस वंश की स्थापना की। कुबेर उनका सम्राट था।
अगस्त शाखा
पुलस्त्य द्वारा गोद लिए दत्तोलि से आगे चलकर अगस्त नामक ब्रह्म राक्षस वंश की स्थापना हुई। ब्राह्मण वंश से उत्पन्न राक्षसों को ब्रह्म राक्षस कहते हैं। ब्रह्म राक्षस वेद-वेदांगों के ज्ञाता थे। वे रात्रि के समय यज्ञ करते थे तथा हिरण्यश्रृंग पर कुबेर की सेवा करते थे। इस शाखा के राक्षस दक्षिण भारत और लंका में रहते थे।
विश्वामित्र तथा कौशिक शाखा
अगस्त्यों के साथ विश्वामित्र तथा कौशिक शाखा के लोग भी ब्रह्म राक्षसों में गिने जाने लगे थे। ये वहीं लोग होंगे जिन्होंने विश्वामित्र का आदेश नहीं माना था। “मिताक्षरा” में पुलस्त्य ऋषि के दो श्लोकों के उदाहरण मिलते हैं, जिनमें ग्यारह नशीली वस्तुओं के नाम देकर बारहवें अत्यन्त मादक पदार्थ के रूप में शराब का उल्लेख है।
“पुलस्त्य स्मृति” के अनेक श्लोकों का वर्णन अपरार्क ने किया है। ये श्लोक संध्या, श्राद्ध, अशौच, सन्यास धर्म, प्रायश्चित आदि के सम्बन्ध में हैं। पुलस्त्य ने “स्मृति चन्द्रिका” में चालीस श्लोक दिए है। इसका रचना काल चौथी शताब्दी माना गया है। स्पष्ट है कि यह स्मृति ऋषि पुलस्त्य के किसी वंशज द्वारा लिखी गई होगी। ब्रह्मा के मानस पुत्र पुलस्त्य द्वारा नहीं। पुलह :
पुलह ब्रह्मा का मानस पुत्र और एक शक्तिशाली ऋषि था। दक्ष की पुत्री क्षमा इसकी पत्नी थी। अपमानित और क्रुद्ध शिवजी ने इसे भी जला दिया था। क्षमा पत्नी से ऋषि पुलह को कर्दम पुत्र हुआ। कर्दम का विवाह अत्रि ऋषि की बेटी श्रुति से हुआ। कर्दम और श्रुति की दो सन्तानें पुत्र शंखपाद तथा पुत्री काम्या हुई। शंखपाद दक्षिण का प्रजापति था काम्या का विवाह स्वायंभुव मनु के पुत्र प्रिय व्रत से हुआ। काम्या और प्रियव्रत के दस पुत्र और दो बेटियाँ हुई। दसों ने क्षत्रियत्व प्राप्त कर लिया और वह सप्तद्वीपों के स्वामी बन गए। पुलह का वंश
महाभारत के अनुसार पुलह ऋषि की सन्तान मृग, सिंह, रीछ, व्याघ्र आदि थे। वायु पुराण के अनुसार इसके पुत्रों में दानव, रक्ष, गंधर्व, किन्नर, पिशाच, भूत, सर्प आदि थे।
मार्कण्डेय के अनुसार पुलह के तीन पुत्र कर्दम, अर्ववीर और सहिष्णु दुष्ट चरित्र के थे अतः पुलह ने अगस्त ऋषि के पुत्र दृढ़ास्य या दृढच्युत को गोद ले लिया। पदम पुराण में इसे दंभोलि कहा है। इससे पुलह वंश दो शाखाओं में बंट गया। पुलह के पुत्र पौलह कहलाए और अगस्त शाखा के पुत्र ब्रह्म
राक्षस। उल्लेखनीय है कि उड़ीसा व कई अन्य प्रान्तों के आदि वासियों की जातियाँ – मृग, सिंह, रीछ, व्याघ्र, कछुआ आदि हैं। ऋतु :
इस ऋषि के वंशज बालखिल्य थे। क्रतु ने ऋषि अगस्त के पुत्र को गोद ले लिया था।
English Translation.
Rishi Pulastya.
Sage Pulastya was a Prajapati, and one among the eight Manas sons of Brahma. The others being Bhrigu, Vasistha, Marichi, Angiras, Atri, Pulah and Kratu He is also one of the Saptarishi (Seven great sages) in the first age of Manu, the Manvantara.
Pulastya’s wife Preeti was the daughter of Swayambhu Daksha and Shankar’s wife was the sister of Sati. Insulted by Daksha, Shankar killed many sons of Brahma, Pulastya was one of them.
According to the Puranas, Davgni, Devbahu and Dabholi or Dattoli were the sons of Pulastya. Rishi Pulastya had a son named Vishravas Edvid from his wife Idvid. The child born from Vishravas became a demon. That’s why Pulastya adopted a son of Agastya Rishi. From this Dabholi or Dattoli the August branch of Pulastya dynasty developed. Kuber-Vaishravana branch
Vishravas, the son of sage Pulastya, had a son named Kubera from Devvarnini, the daughter of Brihaspati. Kubera was a Yaksha, but he had four sons. Nal Kuber, Ravana, Kumbh Karna, Vibhishana and Daughter Shurpanakha were demons. All of them established the demon dynasty. Kuber was their emperor.
Adopted by Pulastya, the Brahma Rakshasa dynasty named Agastya was established ahead of Dattoli. The demons born from the Brahmin dynasty are called Brahma demons. Brahm Rakshasa was the knower of Vedas and Vedangas. He used to perform Yagya at night and used to serve Kubera on Hiranyasringa. The demons of this branch lived in South India and Lanka.
Vishwamitra and Kaushik branch
Along with the Agastyas, the people of Vishwamitra and Kaushik branch were also counted among the Brahma demons. These would be the same people who did not obey Vishwamitra’s order. Examples of two verses of Pulastya Rishi are found in “Mitakshara”, in which alcohol is mentioned as the twelfth most intoxicating substance by giving the names of eleven intoxicants.
Aparark has described many verses of “Pulastya Smriti”. These verses are related to Sandhya, Shraddha, Ashaucha, Sanyas Dharma, Atonement etc. Pulastya has given forty verses in “Smriti Chandrika”. Its composition period is believed to be the fourth century. It is clear that this Smriti must have been written by a descendant of Sage Pulastya. Not by Pulastya, the Manas son of Brahma.
Pulah was the Manas son of Brahma and a powerful sage.
Daksha’s daughter Kshama was his wife. Insulted and enraged, Shiva burnt it as well. Rishi Pulah had a son Kardama from Kshama wife. Kardam was married to Shruti, the daughter of sage Atri. Kardam and Shruti had two children, son Shankhpad and daughter Kamya. Shankhpad was the Prajapati of the South. Kamya was married to Priya Vrat, son of Swayambhuva Manu. Kamya and Priyavrat had ten sons and two daughters. The ten attained Kshatriyatva and became the lord of the Saptadweeps. dynasty of pulah
According to the Mahabharata, the children of Pulah Rishi were deer, lion, bear, tiger etc. According to the Vayu Purana, among its sons were demons, rakshasas, Gandharvas, eunuchs, vampires, ghosts, snakes etc.
According to Markandeya, Pulah’s three sons Kardama, Arvaveer and Tolerana were of evil character, so Pulah adopted Durdhyasya or Durdhachyuta, the son of Agastya Rishi. In Padma Purana it is called Dambholi. Due to this the Pulah dynasty was divided into two branches. The sons of Pulah are called Paulah and the sons of August branch are called Brahma.
Demon. It is worth mentioning that the castes of the original inhabitants of Orissa and many other provinces are – Deer, Lion, Bear, Tiger, Tortoise etc. Season:
The descendant of this sage was Balkhilya. Kratu had adopted the son of sage Agastya.
