Dhruvasena I was a notable ruler of the Maitraka dynasty, which governed parts of western India from the 5th to the 8th century CE. Dhruvasena I is known for his significant contributions to the dynasty and the region during his rule. Dhruvasena I ascended to the throne around the 6th century CE, during a time when the Maitrakas were prominent in the region, particularly in parts of modern-day Gujarat. Dhruvasena I was known for his patronage of literature and the arts. He supported poets, scholars, and artists, contributing to the flourishing of culture and learning in his kingdom. Dhruvasena I had a significant impact on Jainism. He is remembered for inviting the prominent Jain scholar and philosopher Siddhasena Divakara to his court. This marked an important period of Jain scholarship and dissemination of Jain teachings. During Dhruvasena I’s reign, several rock-cut cave temples and inscriptions were created, reflecting the artistic and architectural advancements of the Maitraka.
