Rishi Sarswat

ऋषि सारस्वत :

सारस्वत ऋषि दधीचि भार्गव के पुत्र थे। वे वेद आचार्य थे। इनकी माँ का नाम सरस्वती था। दधीचि ऋषि के आत्म-समर्पण के पश्चात् बारह वर्ष अकाल पड़ा। सरस्वती नदी के तट पर रहने वाले समस्त लोग व ऋषि अन्न की खोज में निकल, इधर-उधर भटकने लगे। केवल सारस्वत ही सरस्वती नदीके किनारे वेदाभ्यास में सन्लग्न रहे। और उन्होंने वेदाभ्यास की परम्परा जीवित रखी। महाभारत में लिखा है कि स्वायंभुव मन्वन्तर में वेद-विभाजन का कार्य सारस्वत ने अत्यन्त कुशलता  से किया। इसलिए वे वेदाचार्य कहलाए। वे बारह वर्ष सरस्वती नदी द्वारा प्राप्त भोजन पर आश्रित रहे, सम्भवतः इन्हें इसीलिए सरस्वती-पुत्र कहते हैं।
अकाल समाप्त होने के पश्चात् ऋषियों को वेदाध्ययन करने की इच्छा हुई। केवल सारस्वत ऋषि ही वेदों के ज्ञाता थे। अतः सभी ऋषि इनके आश्रम में पहुंचे। उन्होंने साठ हजार ऋषियों को वेद विद्या सिखाई। उनके आश्रम का नाम सारस्वत तीर्थ है, इस तीर्थ का अन्य नाम तुंगकारण्य है।
तैत्तरीय संहिता की दो अध्ययन पद्धतियां प्राचीन काल में प्रचलित थी, जो काण्डानुक्रम और सारस्वत पाठ के नाम से प्रसिद्ध थी। उनमें ‘काण्डानुक्रम पाठ लुप्त हो चुका है। सारस्वत ऋषि द्वारा प्राप्त सारस्वत पाठ ही प्रचलित है। इस विषय में एक कथा है दुर्वासा ऋषि द्वारा सरस्वती नदी लुप्त हो गई और उसने एक अत्रि वंशी ब्राह्मण के घर जन्म लिया। इसी सरस्वती के घर सारस्वत उत्पन्न हुआ। मां ने पुत्र को वेद विद्याएँ सिखाई और कुरुक्षेत्र में तप करने के लिए कहा। इसी तपस्या में सारस्वत को तैत्तरीय संहिता का स्वतन्त्र क्रम पाठ प्राप्त हुआ। इसने अपने सारे शिष्यों को यह पाठ सिखाया। इस पाठ को शास्त्र मान्यता और लोक मान्यता प्राप्त हुई। कहीं-2 दधीचि ऋषि को अथर्व कुल में पैदा हुआ और अथर्वन पुत्र कहा गया है। किसी-किसी ग्रन्थ में इसे अंगीरस कहा गया है।
मत्स्य, वायु पुराण में दधीचि को भार्गव कहा है। ब्राह्मण्ड में इसे ऋचीक नाम दिया है।
English Translation

Sage Saraswat: Saraswat was the son of Rishi Dadhichi Bhargava. He was Veda Acharya. His mother’s name was Saraswati. After the self-surrender of Dadhichi Rishi, there was a famine for twelve years. All the people and sages living on the banks of Saraswati river started wandering here and there in search of food. Only Saraswat remained engaged in Vedabhyas on the banks of river Saraswati. And he kept the tradition of Vedabhyas alive. It is written in Mahabharata that Saraswat did the task of dividing Vedas in Swayambhuva Manvantar very efficiently. That’s why he was called Vedacharya. He survived on the food obtained from Saraswati river for twelve years, probably that is why he is called Saraswati-putra. After the end of the famine, the sages had a desire to study the Vedas. Only Saraswat Rishi was knowing context of the Vedas. So all the sages reached his ashram. He taught Veda Vidya to sixty thousand sages. The name of his ashram is Saraswat Teerth. Another name of this Teerth is Tungakaranya. Two study methods of Taittiriya Samhita were prevalent in ancient times, which were famous as Kandanukram and Saraswat text. The ‘Kandanukram’ text has disappeared in them. The Saraswat text received by Saraswat Rishi is prevalent. There is a legend in this regard that Saraswati river was made extinct by sage Durvasa and she took birth in the house of an Atri Vanshi Brahmin. Saraswat was born in the house of this Saraswati. The mother taught the Vedas to the son and asked him to do penance in Kurukshetra. In this penance, Saraswat got the independent sequence of Taittiriya Samhita. He taught this lesson to all his disciples. This lesson got his scripture’s recognition as well as public recognition. Somewhere Dadhichi Rishi is said to have been born in the Atharva clan and the son of Atharvan. In some texts he has been called Angiras. Dadhichi is called Bhargava in Matsya, Vayu Purana. In Brahmand, he is named as Richik.
