Maharishi Charak
महर्षि चरक
महर्षि चरक एक चिकित्सक और आयुर्वेद के विद्वान थे। चरक वैशम्पायन के शिष्य थे.
उन्होंने आयुर्वेद की प्रसिद्ध पुस्तक चरक संहिता लिखा था । इस ग्रंथ में उपचारात्मक एवं रोगनिरोधी औषधियों तथा सोना, चाँदी, लोहा, पारा आदि धातुओं तथा धातु की भस्म का मानव शरीर में प्रयोग का वर्णन है।चरक नाम का अर्थ प्रायश्चित करने वाला है। चरक के पिता का नाम विशुद्ध था पुराणकार उन्हें अनन्त नामक नाग का अवतार कहते हैं। इन्होंने अपने ग्रन्थ में पश्चिमोत्तर प्रदेश का अधिक उल्लेख किया है। सम्भवतः ये वहां के निवासी थे। चरक आयुर्वेदीय चरक संहिता नामक महान् ग्रन्थ के रचयिता हैं। आयुर्वेद का सर्वप्रथम ब्रह्मा ने निर्माण किया। ब्रह्मा से प्रजापति ने, प्रजापति से अश्विनी कुमारों ने, उनसे इन्द्र ने, इन्द्र से भारद्वाज ने आयुर्वेद का अध्ययन किया। दीर्घ, सुखी जीवन प्राप्त करने के लिए अन्य ऋषियों ने इस विद्या का प्रचार किया।
बौद्ध ग्रन्थ (त्रिपिटक) में चरक को राजा कनिष्क का राजवैद्य कहा है। कई विद्वानों का विचार है कि चरक और पंतजलि एक ही है।
English Translation
Maharishi Charak was a physician and a scholar of Ayurveda. Charak was a disciple of Vaishampayan. He had written a famous Ayurveda book Charak Samhita. The book describes curative and prophylactic medicines and metals like gold, silver, iron, mercury etc. and the use of metal ashes in human body.
Charak means atonement. Charak’s father’s name was Vishuddha. Puranakars call him the incarnation of a serpent named Ananta. He has mentioned more about the north western region of India, in his book. Probably he was resident of North West India. Charak is the author of the famous Ayurvedic book called Charak Samhita.
Ayurveda was first invented by Brahma. Thereafter, Prajapati, Ashwini Kumars, Indra, and Bhardwaj contributed in Ayurveda sciences.
Other sages propagated these learnings for welfare of people so that they live long & happy married life.
In the Buddhist text (Tripitak), Charaka is called the physician of King Kanishka. Many scholars are of the view that Charaka and Patanjali is name of the same sage.
