Chandragupta 1 was the first Gupta king to issue gold coins. Designs were influenced by the coins of the earlier Kushan Empire The gold coins attributed to Chandragupta bear portraits of Chandragupta and Kumaradevi, and the legend Lichchhavayah (“the Lichchhavis”).
