Dharasena II ascended to the throne in the 7th century CE during a time when the Maitrakas were a prominent ruling dynasty in the region. Like his predecessors, continued to be a patron of art, culture, and literature. During his rule, the Maitraka dynasty continued to support artistic endeavours, fostering the growth of cultural richness in the region. He maintained a close association with Jainism, and he is known for his support of Jain religious activities. The Maitraka rulers, including Dharasena II, played a significant role in the growth and spread of Jainism in the region. Dharasena II is associated with the construction of rock-cut cave temples and inscriptions, reflecting the architectural achievements of the Maitrakas. His reign saw the creation of important religious and artistic sites, which continue to be of historical and cultural significance. Our knowledge of Dharasena II’s reign primarily comes from inscriptions, historical texts, and archaeological findings from the Maitraka era. These inscriptions provide valuable insights into the history of the
Maitraka dynasty and the ruler’s contributions.
