वसिष्ठ हिरण्य नाभ कौशल्य
यह वसिष्ठ ब्रह्मा के मानस पुत्र वसिष्ठ से भिन्न है। राम की बीसवीं पीढ़ी में राजा हिरण्यनाभ कौशल्य हुआ है। | वसिष्ठ उसका पुत्र था। यह जैमिनी नामक आचार्य का शिष्य था। जैमिनी ने इसे वेद की पाँच सौ संहिताएँ सिखाई थीं। इसने वही अपने शिष्य याज्ञवल्क्य को प्रदान की। यह ऋषि सभी मांगलिक कार्यों में सिद्धहस्त था। यह सामवेदी श्रुत ऋषि एवं योगाचार्य था राजवंश के होते हुये भी वह इस तपस्या से ब्राह्मण बना।
उपर्युक्त वसिष्ठ ऋषियों के अतिरिक्त और प्रमुख गुरु वसिष्ठ हुए हैं। जिन्होंने सम्बंधित राज्यों में सशक्त भूमिका निभाई थी। उनका विवरण इस प्रकार है !
इला के पोते आयु का पुरोहित वसिष्ठ था। राजा आयु इक्ष्वाकु की तीसरी पीढ़ी के राजा कुकुत्स्थ का समकालीन था। राजा आयु व रानी इन्दुमति के पुत्र नहुष का दैत्य हुण्ड ने अपहरण कर दिया था। रसोईए की कृपा से बच्चा बच गया।
गुरु वसिष्ठ ने इसका नाम नहुष रखा। इसका पालन -पोषण किया, तथा उसे सभी अस्त्र-शस्त्रों में परंगत किया बड़ा होने पर नहुष ने गुरु की आज्ञा से हुण्ड दैत्य पर आक्रमण कर, अपने पिता का खोया हुआ राज्य वापिस लिया।
अयोध्या के राजा मांधता के पुत्र मुथुकुंद का गुरु भी वसिष्ठ था। एक बार मुचुकुंद ने कुबेर पर आक्रमण किया। कुबेर ने राक्षसों द्वारा इसकी सारी सेना नष्ट करवा दी। इसने अपनी दुर्दशा का सारा दोष पुरोहितों पर लगाया। इसके गुरु वसिष्ठ ने कठिन तपस्या करके राक्षसों का अन्त किया। कुबेर ने राजा को कहा.
“अपने बल पर मुझे जीतते। ब्राह्मण की सहायता क्यों लेते हो। मुचुकुंद ने उत्तर दिया “तप तथा मंत्र का बल ब्राह्मणों के पास है तथा शस्त्र-विद्या क्षत्रियों के पास राजा का कर्तव्य है कि वह दोनों शक्तियों का उपयोग कर राष्ट्र का कल्याण करे। भरत की पांचवी पीढ़ी में राजा रतिदेव हुआ। इसका राज्य चम्बल नदी के किनारे पर था। यह राजा दानवीरता के लिए प्रसिद्ध था। इसका गुरु वसिष्ट था। राजा रतिदेव को विधिवत् अर्घ्य देकर उसकी पूजा की थी। इसी राजा का निकट सम्बंधी सम्राट् हरित था। इसके नाम पर हस्तिनापुर बसा है। इसका कुल पुरोहित भी वसिष्ठ था। राजा रतिदेव क्षत्रिय होते हुये भी ब्राह्मण बन कर अगिरस गोत्र में मिला गया था।
चैकतानेय वसिष्ठ –
सुमन्तु का शिष्य औरहश्य वसिष्ठ एवं उसका शिष्य चैकतानेय वसिष्ठ था। यह सामवेद का आचार्य था। पंडिक्श ब्राह्मण एवं वंश ब्राह्मण में इसका उल्लेख है। इसने गीतगी आरुणि से वाद-विवाद किया था।
सातहव्य वसिष्ठ :
इस ऋषि का देवभाग ऋषि के साथ मंत्र-पठन पर विचार हुआ था।
वैडव वसिष्ठ :
वीड वसिष्ठ का पुत्र था। इसने साम की रचना की थी। यह सुखी व समृद्ध था। राजा शान्तनु का पुरोहित भी वसिष्ठ था। गंगा ने गुरु वसिष्ठ द्वारा अपने पुत्र भीष्म को समस्त वेदों में पारंगत कराया। भीष्म का यौवराज्याभिषेक भी इसी गुरु वसिष्ठ ने किया था।
Vasistha
Hiranya Nabh Kaushalya.
This Vasishtha is different from Vasishtha, the Manas son of Brahma. King Hiranyanabha Kaushalya happened in the twentieth generation of Lord Ram. Vasishtha was his son. He was a disciple of an Acharya named Gemini. Gemini had taught him five hundred Samhitas of the Vedas. He gave the same to his disciple Yajnavalkya. This sage was proficient in all auspicious works. This Samvedi Shrut Rishi and Yogacharya, was a Brahmin, even though he was from other dynasty, he became a Brahmin by this penance. In addition to the above-mentioned sages Vasistha, the main guru has been Vasistha. Who played a strong role in the respective states. His details are as follows:-
Ila’s grandson was Vasistha, the priest of Ayu. King Ayu was a contemporary of King Kukutstha of the third generation of Ikshvaku. Nahusha, the son of King Ayu and Queen Indumati, was abducted by the demon namely Hund. The child was saved by the grace of the cook. Guru Vasishtha named it Nahusha. Nurtured it, and trained it in all weaponary. On growing up, Nahush attacked the demon Hund by the order of the Guru and took back the lost kingdom of his father. Vasistha was also the teacher of Muthukunda, the son of King Mandhata of Ayodhya. Once Muchukund attacked Kuber. Kuber got his entire army destroyed by the demons. He put all the blame of his plight on these priests. It’s Guru Vasishtha ended the demons by performing penance. Kuber told the king. “You win me with your own strength. Why do you seek the help of a Brahmin?” . King Ratidev took birth in the fifth generation of Bharat. His kingdom was on the banks of Chambal river. This king was famous for his charity work. His teacher was Vasistha. He worshiped King Ratidev by offering Arghya to him. Emperor Harit was a close relative of this king. Hastinapur is named after him. His priest was also Vasistha. King Ratidev, despite being a Kshatriya, became a Brahmin and joined the Agiras gotra. Chaktaneya Vasistha – Sumantu’s disciple was Aurahashya Vasishtha and his disciple was Chaikataneya Vasishtha. He was the teacher of Samveda. He is mentioned in Pandiksha Brahmin and Vansh Brahmin. Once he had a debate with Geetagi Aaruni. Sathavya Vasistha: This Rishi had a discussion with Rishi Devbhag on chanting mantras. Vaidav Vasistha: Veed was the son of Vasistha. He created Sama. He was a happy and prosperous. King Shantanu’s priest was also Vasistha. Ganga trained her son Bhishma in all the Vedas through Guru Vasishtha. The coronation of Bhishma was also performed by this Guru Vasishtha.
